In this new territory… what can you do today for tomorrow?
Help yourself and others
When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” – Fred Rogers
By keeping our eyes open we can help others. How? By providing your talents, time, hope and love, we can strengthen our community. Now’s the time to place that call, send that text or connect online through virtual social platforms. Let’s keep the dialog open and lift each other up through laughter and song. Let’s share our ideas for the future and continue to take steps towards achieving personal and professional goals. We can be the example that others need. We can find that strength within us. Faith not Fear!
Ask yourself, “What three positives can come from a crisis?”
Assess and explore careers
According to national data, it takes an individual, on average, 4-8 months to find a new job and that’s if you know exactly what you are looking for. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics gathers information on the length of time that workers are unemployed. Before COVID-19 the data for 2019 indicated that the average duration of unemployment was 22.1 weeks; 20.6% of the unemployed were out of work for 27 weeks or longer.
If you were thinking about a career change before COVID-19, but didn’t know how to start, you can take action now to assess and identify your values, strengths, personality type, and interests, to create a list of career options. At Find Your Fit, our mission is to help you: see your unique promise of value, explore your options for growth and partner with you as you confidently take the steps needed to find your fit at work and in life. Together we can help you look at your transferability, gain ideas and explore careers you didn’t even know existed.

Explore education options
If you have a senior in high school that is faced with graduation in a few months time, you may be wondering what the future holds for them. You may be worried and frustrated. Even amidst the current climate, colleges continue to provide quality programs and degrees, in a vibrant virtual setting. Learning continues, in ways we could only dream possible thirty years ago. We are entering uncharted waters at universities and some of the options that universities and colleges are offering in today’s changing dynamics are exciting.
You may also be worried about the cost of education and want to help your student be efficient in their education by selecting the right college major the first time around.
About 80 percent of students in the United States end up changing their major at least once, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. On average, college students change their major at least three times over the course of their college career. For more information, check out the Student Research Foundation. It’s worth having a plan before going all in.
